FC Bayern Munich have put the ‘buy’ back in Bayern again with the purchase of Corentin Tolisso from Olympique Lyonnais. The central midfielder from France was bought for a reported amount of 42-million euros, or around 47-million US dollars. Corentin Tolisso agreed on a 5-year contract with the Bavarians.
“I had a wonderful time at Lyon and I’m very thankful for that. Now I’m really pleased to be at one of the best clubs in Europe. I have great aims for my time at FC Bayern, today is a great day for me,” said Tolisso after the signing.
Corentin Tolisso has been looked at as one of the biggest and most promising young talents in Europe for quite some time now and it was only a matter of time before he made a move to a big-name club. Tolisso recorded 14 goals and 7 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions with Olympique Lyonnais during the 2016-17 season.
FC Bayern Munich have most likely signed signed the central midfielder as a replacement to Xabi Alonso, who recently retired. Bayern’s central midfield will now most likely consist of Arturo Vidal, Thiago and Corentin Tolisso. The Bavarians will also have Renato Sanches and Joshua Kimmich, who can fill the role in the middle if need be.
How this move will pan out is unknown as Bayern made a similar signing last summer with the purchase of Renato Sanches, I think it is fair to say that that transfer hasn’t exactly worked as Bayern would’ve hoped. Bayern will be hoping that they can return to European success like the Champions League trophy they won back in 2013.
While they have won the Bundesliga four years in a row, they have fallen short in Europe, failing to reach the finals of the Champions League four years in a row. Overall, Bayern will hope that the addition of Tolisso will strengthen their squad and possibly this move could be pivotal to Bayern potentially becoming champions of Europe once again.
