After their surprising and magical Africa Cup of Nations championship run, Cameroon is back in the Confederations Cup after finishing runner-up in 2002. Manager, Hugo Broos, has done well with The Indomitable Lions as he has them playing exciting, high-tempo soccer that the fans haven’t seen in years. He’s very happy with Cameroon as he’s loving it and doesn’t want to leave.
The following is from Leocadia Bongben of BBC.
” I do not want to leave Cameroon “, Broos said. ” If I was going to leave Cameroon I would have done so earlier. We won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, we are the best team in Africa and we are at the summit of African football. There are challenges ahead, in the months of June and September, and the Africa Cup of Nations, and it is necessary to end this episode and concentrate on the team “.
” I think we made huge efforts to arrive where we are, we need big efforts to remain where we are on top and everyone should be conscious of moving in the same direction and forget personal interests. All has been said and from today we need to focus on the football “.
Player To Watch: Vincent Aboubakar
On a team filled with young, exciting talent, forward Vincent Aboubakar is the best player on Cameroon. On loan at Besiktas last season, Aboubakar scored 12 goals in 27 appearances to help them win the Super Lig. The 25-year-old also scored the game winning goal in the 88th minute to help Cameroon win the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations against Egypt. With his experience on the national team, Aboubakar will play a huge part in Cameroon’s run in the Confederations Cup.
Cameroon will finish 3rd place in Group B, leaving them with an early exit. They can’t compete with Chile and Germany, the clear favorites to come out of Group B, but they compete against them and will try to at least get a result. They’ll win against Australia and lose to Germany and Chile.
