The World Cup champion soccer team, Germany, are one of the favorites to win the Confederations Cup along with Mexico, Portugal, and Chile. Joachim Löw will try to lead Germany to their first ever Confederations Cup win.

Joachim Löw decided to leave out superstars such as Thomas Müller, Jérôme Boateng, Toni Kroos, and Mesut Özil. Löw will hope that his young squad will have what it takes to win the tournament. Germany’s star goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer will miss the tournament due to a foot injury so Julian Draxler will take over as captain for Germany.

Players to watch: Julian Draxler/Timo Werner

Julian Draxler is Germany’s most experienced and arguably the best player on Germany’ roster. He has been fantastic ever since signing for PSG this January. Draxler’s form for Germany has been very good as well, scoring in Germany’s thrashing of San Marino this past Saturday. Germany will be a very dangerous team if Draxler can continue his form.

Timo Werner had a breakout season for RB Leipzig this past season. Werner scored 21 goals and helped RB Leipzig finish 2nd in their first ever Bundesliga season. Werner will hope to maintain his goal scoring form in the tournament.

Germany are in Group B alongside Australia, Cameroon, and Chile. Germany should be able to beat Australia and Cameroon but they will lose to Chile, which means they’ll finish 2nd in their group. Next, they will face off against Portugal. Portugal are arguably the strongest side in the tournament so they will be able to beat a young German side.
