The Charlotte Hornets selected Malik Monk with the 11th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Monk is a 6’3″ shooting guard coming out of Kentucky.

The 19 year old averaged 19.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game during his Freshman season. Monk is a little under sized but is a very athletic player and a tremendous shooter.

Monk won SEC Player Of the Year and The Jerry West Award this past season, and also was a finalist for the Wooden Award.

Monk is a great scorer, leading the SEC in points produced and field goals made. Not only did he dominate the SEC but he was 7th in the NCAA in points per game.

Monk can attack the basket just as well as he can shoot the ball. He is a great offensive weapon but, can lack defensively.

Monk is at a young enough age where he can prosper under the leadership of Nic Batum. Batum is a great all around player who can serve as role model for Monk, showing him that it is important to work hard on every aspect on the court and not just offense.

This was a very good pick for the Hornets as they did not expect Monk to be available at the time of their pick. Look out for Malik Monk and Charlotte this upcoming year.
