Today the Kansas City Chiefs promoted former co-director Brett Veach to be the next GM. He is the 7th GM in franchise history. Veach previously worked with HC Andy Reid in Philadelphia where he was the team’s scout and assistant from 2007-2012. To summarize his football experience, Veach played RB for Delaware in college, and as a senior, he rushed for 2,163 rushing yards and 26 TD’s. He also rushed for 160 yards and 1 TD on 25 carries in their conference championship game.

Brett’s old coach had some nice words to say about him:

“Brett was something special, that’s all you can really say,” retired coach Dave “Whitey” Williams said. “Brett was all about big plays, but he was such a team player, who, mentally knew the game so well.”

Here’s what Veach had to say about being promoted to GM:

“My family and I would like to extend our gratitude to Clark and the Hunt family for this incredible opportunity,” Veach said. “I am humbled and honored to serve as the General Manager of the Kansas City Chiefs. Over the last four seasons I’ve had the privilege to work alongside Andy Reid, John Dorsey and a great group of coaches and personnel staff. Together, we built a strong foundation of players that have helped us sustain success on the field. I’m looking forward to continuing our progress as we head into 2017.”

Veach spent his first two years with the Chiefs working in the player personnel division. He rose the ranks and became a Co-Director of Player Personnel in 2013. With his appointment to GM, he will report directly to Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt on all player personnel matters. Veach, 39, is a favorite of HC Andy Reid, so it makes sense to hire him.

Here’s the statement from Brett Veach:

“My family and I would like to extend our gratitude to Clark and the Hunt family for this incredible opportunity,” Veach said in the statement. “I am humbled and honored to serve as the general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs. Over the last four seasons I’ve had the privilege to work alongside Andy Reid, John Dorsey and a great group of coaches and personnel staff.

“Together, we built a strong foundation of players that have helped us sustain success on the field. I’m looking forward to continuing our progress as we head into 2017.”

Kansas City will formally introduce Veach in a press conference on July 24th, four days before Kansas City starts training camp. Veach was one of the Chiefs top candidates after John Dorsey’s firing on June 22nd. This should be a fun year for Kansas City!
