There has been a shocking announcement in the soccer world today as Bayern Munich has signed attacking midfielder James Rodriguez from Real Madrid on a two-year loan. They have the option to buy the Columbian permanently when his loan is over in 2019.
Rodriguez was expected to leave. He was not getting the playing time he deserved at Madrid, and manager Zinedine Zidane basically zoned him out from the first team. Based on his talent, Rodriguez deserves to get more playing time as a player in the first team.
Bayern already has a stacked midfield: Thomas Muller, Franck Ribery, Douglas Coasta, Renato Sanches, Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman, Arturo Vidal, Thiago, Sebastian Rudy, Arjen Robben, Serge Gnabry and Cristian Tolisso. It looks pretty scary, I get chills just looking at the depth and potential of it.
With Rodriguez now on the team, it looks like Bayern Munich are pushing heavily to win the Champions League. The last time they won it was in 2013. Since then, they have crashed out of the semifinals against better teams. With the addition of Rodriguez, they could get over the hump.
The following is from Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge:
” We are delighted to have realised this transfer. It was our coach Carlo Ancelotti’s big wish to sign James Rodriguez, following their successful spell working together in Madrid.
“James is a versatile player. He’s dangerous in front of the goal, sets up a lot of strikes and takes great set pieces. Without a doubt, we’ve increased the quality of our squad with this transfer once again.”
