The NFL season is officially back with players reporting to their teams for training camp. One team to look out for is the New England Patriots who are fresh off their Super Bowl win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Injuries

Dont’a Hightower and Alan Branch are placed on the PUP list.

Day 1

The quarterbacks had a solid first day of training camp. On 11v11s, Tom Brady went 6/8, Garoppolo went 2/6 with an INT and Brissett went 7/12.

With the running backs, Rex Burkhead had a nice grab for a TD. DJ Foster had a nice day including a pass from Brissett, and was returning punts along with Dion Lewis.

The wide receivers had a solid day, but Malcolm Mitchell showed a bit of rust after not practicing this spring. He was also seen with light tape and wrap on his knee and is still wearing the arm brace. Brandin Cooks caught a deep ball from Brady and had a nice 30-yard TD. Danny Amendola was returning kicks and Austin Carr made a very nice TD grab.

Tight end Joe Cardona was absent because he had a Navy commitment, and Rob Gronkowski had a very nice day. He looked very healthy and made plays all over the field. Lastly, Dwayne Allen played a whole lot better and did not drop a single ball.

On the offensive-line, Tony Garcia was the first player to hit the field and Andrew Jelks was absent from practice. The defensive-line saw Ninkovich absent, but took media rounds elsewhere. Kony Ealy was also absent.

For the defensive backs, Cyrus Jones dropped a ball on a kick return and was booed by the crowd, but did not drop anything for the rest of the day. Jones also got beat by Brandin Cooks for a TD. Eric Rowe had a nice breakup defending Julian Edelman and had a nice interception. Malcolm Butler had a nice breakup defending Cooks. Kenny Moore had a solid day, and he intercepted Brissett in 4v4’s and had 4 pass breakups. Jonathan Jones had a lot of work in the slot position, and Butler and Gilmore played outside.

Day 2 was much of the same although it was not as competitive as the previous day

Jimmy Garoppolo struggled again, as he went 18/27 with 3 INTs. Brady went 13/19, and Brissett went 14/25 with 1 INT.

Rex Burkhead shook David Harris with his quick feet during goal line drills. Dion Lewis looked good as he also shook Harris while he was in coverage.

Both Danny Amendola and Malcolm Mitchell were absent from practice and Cody Hollister left early with an apparent shoulder injury. Devin Lucien also received medical attention because he was limping at the end of practice. Joe Cardona was again absent (Navy) and Dwayne Allen had another good day. He had 0 drops and caught a nice pass from Garoppolo.

Offensive lineman, Andrew Jelks was in attendance but did not practice (NFI). Kony Ealy practiced, but Alan Branch, Dont’a Hightower and Rob Ninkovich  did not practice (PUP).

For the defensive backs, things between Chris Hogan and Cyrus Jones were a bit heated. Eric Rowe made an incredible interception on a back-shoulder throw to Devin Lucien from Garoppolo, and had 3 pass breakups. He has been a stand out so far in camp.

Malcolm Butler, Cedric Thompson, and Jordan Richards all had interceptions. And Stephen Gilmore, Devin McCourty, and Justin Coleman had one pass breakup each.
