Day 4 of training camp is in the books with another solid day for most of the players today. It was the team’s second day wearing pads.
In 7v7’s Tom Brady went 5/5, Jimmy Garoppolo went 4/5, and Jacoby Brissett went 6/6. In 11v11’s Brady went 10/11, Garoppolo went 6/8, and Brissett went 6/6. A very solid day for the quarterbacks.
Both Brandon Bolden and Rex Burkhead got goal line carries, and they both did some good and some bad. Burkhead was traded by the Cincinnati Bengals and may be a solid backup to Mike Gillislee. Dion Lewis returned punts and DJ Foster had a lesser role in other drills as he was with the 1’s during 7v7’s.
Cody Hollister was absent once again due to the injury he sustained a few days ago. Hollister was signed by the Patriots after being undrafted this year out of Arkansas. It is crucial for undrafted players to show off in training camp, so missing this time is devastating for Hollister is devastating. Both, Malcolm Mitchell and Danny Amendola were at practice but did not participate.
Brandin Cooks and Julian Edelman returned punts today. There is a new Patriots player who was wearing #16 today, the name of the player is still unknown.
Rob Gronkowski had the play of the day as he made a nice grab over Jordan Richards. Joe Thuney had a stand out day during 1v1’s and Shaq Mason struggled at times during 1v1’s.
For the second straight day, Geneo Grissom and Lawrence Guy played with the starters. Deatrich Wise looked good in 1v1’s, as did Malcolm Brown. Wise was this year’s 4th round pick out of Arkansas and figures to be a nice backup option.
Kyle Van Noy had himself a good day as he was a “pain in the ass” to the offense. David Harris was playing with the starting defense today, and Elandon Roberts made some nice goal line plays. David Harris was with the New York Jets from 2007-2016 and should be a valuable player once the season rolls around.
Duron Harmon missed practice today, and he was seen with a compression sleeve on his lower right leg. Cyrus Jones returned punts and was partnered with Ryan Allen for special teams work. Malcolm Butler and Julian Edelman went at it today as they had some good battles.
