Should the Dakotas get an NHL team(s)?

Wait a minute, there are two teams in Florida, one team in Arizona, and one team in Texas, but zero in the Dakotas? South and North Dakota are practically Canada and have hockey genetically coded into their blood. Why don’t they have a team? Several towns and cities have semi-pro teams and get close to sold-out each game! I would know because I live in one with a hockey team. Everyone in my town/city goes crazy for our hockey team, the Blizzard. The town goes nuts when we make the playoffs, and we usually barely make it past the first round, but everyone in the town are die-hard Blizzard fans.

Anyway, I think it would be great if there was a South Dakota v North Dakota rivalry. Even in an in-state rivalry for SD. I mean, Rapid City should not get a team, because they are in a more desert-climate. So, maybe like a Sioux Falls vs Brookings or Watertown. I say move the Blizzard to Watertown and give Brookings a team, because Brookings is absolutely growing like crazy, as well is Sioux Falls. Fargo, North Dakota is even more Canadian than South Dakota! And, the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks is one of the best college hockey teams in the nation! North Dakotans and South Dakotans absolutely love hockey!  Brookings has a D1 college, in South Dakota State, and has proved they will cheer for their team. Great turnouts for both football and basketball, give the citizens of Brookings hope for an NHL team.

Plus, with the international headquarters of Daktronics (a scoreboard company) in town, financial costs for the arena could possibly be covered as Daktronics is sponsored all around Brookings.

Sioux Falls is the largest city in the Dakotas and has four semi-pro teams total, one for baseball, one for football, one for basketball, and one for hockey. With no D1 colleges, the people of Sioux Falls would love a pro team and could easily support one. The economy and population of Sioux Falls are becoming urbaner by the day, Sioux Falls would love an NHL team!

Much like Brookings, Fargo has proved they will cheer for their team. Fargo is home to the number one FCS football school (North Dakota State) and gets great turnouts for each and every game. Why no hockey in town? Fargo is much like Sioux Falls, growing and becoming urbanized, these three cities would love to host a team.

Let’s give a toast to, let’s say, the Brookings Panthers (formerly Florida Panthers), Sioux Falls Blue Jackets (Columbus Blue Jackets), and the Fargo Coyotes (Arizona Coyotes).
