Bengals vs Packers (9/24); My Takeaway

As I live and breath, the Bengals lose yet another game. This one, however, hurts a little more than the rest. Ever since the schedule was released, I’ve chalked up the Packers game as an L. I knew the Bengals wouldn’t come out of Lambeau Field victorious, but I was almost wrong. The Bengals lead the entire game until late in the 4th quarter. They then went into overtime, where in which they choked. They choked bigtime. A 77 yard pass to set up a chip-shot field goal. Packers win 27-24. I felt betrayed. Let down by the team that always seems to blow it. But enough about what I though, lets get to what I saw…

The Bengals got the opening kickoff and drove 79 yards for an AJ Green touchdown (their first of the season). Bill Lazor’s play calls were great. He was getting the ball out of Andy Dalton’s hands very quickly and everything was clicking. Mixon was getting favored early on as well, which is nice to see. The touchdown came on a 10 yard strike from Andy Dalton that was on the money. 2 drives later they drove 60 yards and Andy Dalton found Gio Bernard for a 6 yard touchdown. They then proceeded to punt for three straight drives, miss a field goal, punt again, and then hit a field goal. This may seem bad, but compared to what they looked like in the last 2 games, this was great. On the defensive side, the Bengals shined just as much, until after halftime. The Bengals allowed a touchdown on the Packers first drive, but they then a punt, a pick-6, and then 3 straight punts going into the half. The second half was a different story. In the 4th plus overtime, the Packers scored 2 touchdowns and 2 field goals, eventually winning the game. It was as bad as it looks… Lets get into some stats.

Dalton- 21/27 for 212 yards ~ Mixon- 18 rushes for 62 yards, 3 rec for 39 yards ~ Green- 10 rec for 111 yards, 1 TD ~ Bernard- 2 rec for 12 yards, 1 TD ~ Dennard- 7 tackles ~ Jackson III- 4 tackles, 1 Int, 1 TD ~ Lawson- 3 tackles, 2.5 sacks ~ Bullock- 1/2 FG, 3/3 XP…

Now lets look at some good and bad takeaways…

Mixon was getting a ton of carries and looked good running and catching the ball. – Dalton actually looked good for once this season. – A.J Green was getting a ton of receptions. – Bill Lazor made a huge impact.- The O-Line yet again looked exceptional. – The Defense played great for most of the game. – Carl Lawson was a BEAST. – William Jackson III played great and got a great INT for a TD. Everybody stood for the Anthem.

Mixon did good, but not great. – None of the other receivers were involved that much. – The O-Line still could’ve done better. – We couldn’t do good when it mattered most. – Eifert is out for a couple weeks. – Bengals should’ve won the game. – Bengals lost.

Overall, the Bengals played way better than the last two games, and they should’ve won this one. They played great until the half. The Bengals fall to 0-3 after this loss, but don’t lose hope. They play the Browns, the Bills, and then they get a bye week. Nothing big has happened either, other than Eifert possibly missing a couple weeks, and Ross missing practice today. Expect to see a major bounce back victory this Sunday against the Browns.
